This is caused by wind and water erosion

Sunset Over Leadville, Colorado

Sunset over Leadville, Colorado

Touted as the "highest city in the US", at over 10,000 feet, the
population is only 2,800 - so more accurately it would be the highest
town in the US - beautiful place though, this is the edge of the timberline
This was the sunset on my first day there

Big Sur Coast

Big Sur coast, south of Carmel, California

This is along Highway 1, you can see a bridge just before that knoll
The mountains here rise as high as 7800 feet, Pico Blanco is the
highest - we tried hiking it and got stuck just under the summit -
toughest hike I've ever attempted, the trail is all roots and rocks

Primitive Camp, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument

If you don't want to stay in the only campground at Organ Pipe Cactus
National Monument, in southern Arizona, which is a giant, treeless paved
parking lot for RV's, the rangers will send you to a dirt road that leads to
this awesome site in the middle of the desert.. this photo is from our campsite
There are no buildings like bathrooms and no water, so it's like camping out
ought to be: wilderness - just us and the coyotes

Bus Window Reflection

Sunset in my bus window, Monterey Bay
On weekends, I often took a bus from Monterey to San Jose to see my fiance,
the ride through Steinbeck country was beautiful and relaxing

Desert Palms, California

These palm trees were in the middle of nowhere, in the
California desert, obviously an irrigated farm, likely
using water from the Colorado River

Grandview Point, Canyonlands

View from Grandview Point, Canyonlands National Park, Utah

The river below is the Green River, which merges with
the Grand just south of this to create the Colorado
The Green River, which starts in the Wind Mtns of Wyoming,
has a 70% larger drainage basin than the Colorado
The road on the right is the White Rim Trail, a 4-wheel
drive road that follows the edge of the canyon rim for over 40 miles
The green along the river are forests of Cottonwood trees

Ditch Diggers, Athens, Georgia

This was looking down outside my second story window
to the stree below, which was obviously closed
This was my 3rd published photo
